Summary
Five convictions hit Yaroslav Vishnevski, 33, after a federal jury found him guilty of possessing unregistered short-barreled weapons and a silencer, and manufacturing an NFA weapon without paying the required tax.
An April 22, 2024 package from China containing two suspected silencers triggered the case; investigators then used an undercover delivery on May 2 before stopping him and raiding his Harrisburg, Illinois, home.
Three 3D printers and a Ghost Gunner CNC machine were seized along with 3D-printed silencers and frames, untraceable short-barreled rifles, and a 12-gauge shotgun with an obliterated serial number.
Federal law requires short-barreled rifles, short-barreled shotguns and silencers to be registered, and prosecutors said Vishnevski had no such registrations for the weapons operation they uncovered.
The case drew added attention because Vishnevski told local media he had completed Air Force officer training and believed investigators had scrutinized him partly over his Ukrainian background.
