Huawei Says HarmonyOS Can Run on 64KB RAM, Lasting 1 Year on One Dry Cell

128KB of RAM is enough for HarmonyOS today, and Huawei said at its 2026 developer conference that further optimization should cut that to 64KB.
One dry cell could power a HarmonyOS device for a full year, Yu Chengdong said, underscoring Huawei’s push to place the OS in ultra-low-power IoT hardware.
That efficiency drive is meant to widen HarmonyOS beyond phones and tablets, after U.S. restrictions forced Huawei to build out its own software ecosystem instead of relying on Android.
Huawei is also pitching a chip-packaging architecture called LogicFolding to raise density and clock speeds with existing DUV tools, pairing hardware advances with HarmonyOS 7, unveiled earlier Friday with 2,000 AI agents.
