Apple Says Siri Runs on 5 Proprietary AI Models Refined With Google Gemini

Craig Federighi said at WWDC that Siri’s new AI is built on Apple’s own Apple Frontier Models, not a white-label version of Google Gemini or Google Assistant.
Apple said it trained those models on proprietary data and reinforcement learning, then improved them using outputs from Google’s Gemini frontier models — making Gemini a refinement tool rather than Siri’s underlying model.
AFM 3 Cloud Pro, Apple’s most capable server model, needs more compute than Apple’s own Private Cloud Compute can supply, so the company uses Google cloud services and Nvidia chips for the heaviest requests.
Apple said its privacy architecture still applies on those external servers, with cryptographic safeguards and independent verification designed to ensure only Apple can deploy software and devices connect only when users choose.
The Siri system now spans 5 models across devices and servers, underscoring Apple’s push to scale AI while preserving its claim that the core models remain Apple-owned.
