Kennywood Expands Chaperone Rule to Guests 15 and Under as Teen Brawls Hit Parks

Summary
June 12 marks the start of Kennywood’s tightened policy requiring all guests 15 and under to enter with a chaperone during all operating hours through Sept. 7.
The park said the move is aimed at preventing “teen takeovers” and disorder after recent fights at amusement parks, including a Hersheypark brawl that led to charges against 55 people.
Under the rules, chaperones must be at least 21, show government photo ID, stay inside the park for the full visit, and can supervise up to six minors.
Kennywood said the policy extends its prior summer rule from a 4 p.m. start to all-day enforcement, while lowering the covered age group from 17 and under to 15 and under.
The nearly 130-year-old Pennsylvania park said security will enforce the policy at entrances and inside the grounds as parks nationwide face social-media-fueled crowd disruptions.
