Summary
21,754 more residents in Guizhou were being evacuated by Sunday evening, lifting the total affected to over 26,000 after authorities already moved 4,582 people in Qiandongnan.
A top-level red alert issued at 6 p.m. Sunday by China's water and weather agencies warned of a high risk of flash floods in southeastern Guizhou through Monday evening.
Torrential rain from Saturday to Sunday flooded parts of Qianxi, Zunyi and Changshun; in Qianxi, all 30 townships were hit, 1,377 residents were evacuated and more than 50 trapped people rescued.
In Changshun County, a power outage disrupted Bancong reservoir operations and caused overflow, prompting the relocation of more than 3,000 downstream residents from about 1,000 households.
Qiandongnan authorities have stepped up monitoring on 27 rivers and deployed thousands of officials and flood-control personnel as southwest China faces continuing flood risks.
