Allen has said he was not sober during the formative years of his older daughter, Katherine, now an adult. He acknowledged that he was often gone and that her mother did most of the raising. With his younger daughter, Elizabeth, Allen says the experience has been “much different” because she has only known him sober. After a 1998 DUI, he entered rehab and has now been sober for nearly 30 years.
