Blake Rochkind said the September date had been chosen weeks before major showcases clarified the market. Once *Control Resonant* claimed September 24, Lyrical Games decided to move immediately, saying September had become “absolutely stacked” and that *Valor Mortis* and players’ wallets needed “room to breathe.” In practical terms, the studio was not trying to find a perfect date, but a less damaging one. That is why the game still lands beside another sequel. By October, the wider release calendar remains crowded because publishers are clustering major launches in early autumn rather than risk releasing too close to *Grand Theft Auto 6* in November. In that environment, there is effectively no truly clear window. So the move was a trade-off, not an escape from all competition. Facing *Planet Zoo 2* on October 13, with *Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse* two days later, is still challenging, but it is a more manageable scenario than entering a September pile-up of multiple high-profile releases on the same day and across the same week.

Oct. 13, 2026 is the new launch date for Valor Mortis on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC, replacing its planned Sept. 24 release.
One More Level said September had become "absolutely stacked" as studios shuffled around GTA 6's Nov. 19 launch, and moved the game to give players and budgets more room.
The studio will use the extra time to act on feedback from a newly released Steam demo, which includes an opening battlefield chapter and a harder mid-game Lighthouse section.
Valor Mortis, a Napoleonic first-person Soulslike from the Ghostrunner studio, now lands in a relatively open October window that could tighten if more publishers rework 2026 schedules.
