The App Store continues to generate substantially more total revenue than Google Play, driven by stronger in-app purchase and subscription spending. Some estimates put 2025 App Store revenue at about $90.6 billion versus $52.3 billion for Google Play. Subscription-heavy apps remain especially skewed toward iOS, where users still spend more per subscriber. So the gap is closing in the parts of the market tied to ads and scale. Android’s global reach, hybrid monetization models, and improving tooling are making it more competitive, especially for games and ad-supported apps. But for premium spending, subscriptions, and total store revenue, iOS still holds a meaningful advantage. The better reading is that monetization is converging, not equalizing.
