Q: Is a daily pill with strict eating rules truly more convenient than a weekly shot for weight loss?

Not necessarily. For many patients, a once-weekly injection may still be easier to live with than a daily semaglutide pill. The new oral Wegovy removes the needle barrier, which is a real advantage for people who dislike or cannot manage injections. It also avoids refrigeration and may be easier to travel with. Trials suggest it can deliver weight loss broadly comparable to the injectable version, though at higher doses because absorption is much lower. But the pill’s convenience comes with strict rules. It must be taken every morning on an empty stomach, with no more than 4 ounces of plain water, and patients must wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking anything else, or taking other medicines. That can be awkward for people with irregular mornings, shift work, school runs, or other tablets they need on waking. Missing or mistiming doses can also reduce effectiveness. By contrast, the weekly injection is taken just once every seven days and is not tied to meals or other medicines. That flexibility often makes it simpler in practice, despite the need for a jab. The side-effect profile is broadly similar for both forms, mainly nausea, diarrhoea, constipation and vomiting. So the answer depends on what matters more to the patient: avoiding injections, or avoiding a rigid daily routine. For people with needle aversion, the pill may feel much more convenient. For those who value flexibility and minimal day-to-day disruption, the weekly shot is likely the easier option.
