U.S. Soccer CEO JT Batson has confirmed active talks about what “the next four years” could look like, and Pochettino has said he is open to staying if both sides are happy. Batson has also said the federation has the financial backing and planning in place to pursue an extension. At the same time, there is concrete European interest. AC Milan have been linked most heavily, and Pochettino has acknowledged that his representatives may have spoken with clubs. Batson has said the outreach goes beyond what has been publicly reported. Pochettino has also repeatedly left the door open to club management and has spoken positively about eventually returning to European football, especially England. That leaves the decision highly dependent on the World Cup. If the U.S. performs strongly on home soil and Pochettino feels the project is progressing, an extension is realistic. If a major European opening aligns with his long-stated preference for club football, a move back to Europe looks more likely. For now, the evidence suggests he is fully committed to the U.S. through the tournament, while positioning himself to choose between a renewed U.S. project and a high-level European job immediately afterward.
