For a thin foldable, that is exactly the kind of improvement needed to close the endurance gap. But the key issue is that Samsung has not confirmed Si-C adoption for the Z Fold 8 Ultra, and multiple reports indicate the company is still testing the technology rather than deploying it broadly. Samsung has been more cautious than Chinese rivals because of durability, swelling, cost, and manufacturing concerns. That matters because competitors are already ahead. Honor’s Magic V6 is reported with a 6,600mAh silicon-carbon battery globally, and some rivals are pushing toward 6,000mAh or more in similarly slim foldables. Even with a rumored 5,000mAh pack, the Z Fold 8 Ultra would still trail the biggest battery numbers in the category. So the likely answer is that a silicon-carbon battery could make the Z Fold 8 Ultra much more competitive, but unless Samsung both adopts the technology and delivers a much larger capacity than currently rumored, it is unlikely to decisively win the foldable endurance race.
