Meloni Urges EU to Appoint 1 Envoy for Russia Peace Talks

Giorgia Meloni told lawmakers in Rome on Thursday that the European Union should name a single representative to negotiate peace with Russia.
The Italian premier said Europe’s hard line on Moscow should not turn into “diplomatic blindness or self-exclusion,” arguing the bloc needs a joint, pragmatic channel to engage Vladimir Putin.
Her intervention inserts Italy into a wider EU debate over whether and how to reopen direct contact with Russia while the war in Ukraine continues.
