Summary
Thirty-one Jamaican student-athletes have qualified for individual events at the NCAA Division 1 outdoor championships, with competition starting Wednesday at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
Twelve were finalists last year, led by defending men's discus champion Ralford Mullings and women's 400m runner-up Dejanae Oakley, giving Jamaica a strong returning core.
Two athletes qualified for double duty: Clemson's Shanate Foreman in the triple jump and long jump, and Florida's Gabrielle Matthews in the 100m and 200m.
Six Jamaicans made the men's discus field, while Jermar Ferguson and Brandon Falconer will mark Jamaica's first-ever representation in the men's javelin at the NCAA championships.
The men compete on Wednesday and Friday and the women on Thursday and Saturday, with Jamaican contenders also featuring in the 800m, 110m hurdles, shot put, long jump and 400m.
