Summary
An NSA Panama City employee in his late 20s was rushed into surgery after a shark attack left him critically injured on both arms while he swam near the base marina during a lunch break.
Commanding officer Tristan Oliveria said the man, a four-year base employee, was in the water with a colleague around 11:45 a.m. Monday when the shark struck; the second swimmer was not hurt.
NSA Panama City Fire and Emergency Services took the victim to HCA Gulf Coast Hospital for emergency treatment.
The Bay County Sheriff's Office, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and NOAA are investigating the attack as the base said more details would be released later.
