Summary
$700 monthly lot rents set to take effect Aug. 1 have sparked a petition drive at Idlewild Acres in Burke County, where dozens of residents have signed on.
Residents say the increases hit people who already own their mobile homes and cover only the land beneath them, not yard maintenance, water or trash pickup.
One retiree said lot rent has climbed from under $100 a month three years ago to about half his retirement income, while single mother Heaven Kirk said families cannot absorb the added cost.
Valleo Residential, which manages Idlewild Acres and 56 other communities across the Southeast, did not provide a response in the report; residents say they have contacted a local attorney and plan to present the petition to management.
