Jeff Smith said he plans to bring the manufactured home affordability bill back to the Wisconsin Senate as early as January after a Tuesday town hall in Altoona.
The proposal would clarify residents’ rights, try to improve affordability and create a path for residents to buy their communities if owners put them up for sale.
Five years of rising manufactured home rents have squeezed residents, whom Smith described as relying on one of the last remaining affordable housing options.
Residents used the meeting to detail mounting costs and uncertainty about whether they can keep living in their communities, shaping the legislation Smith said he is drafting.
