FOX Business correspondent Max Gorden argued universal basic income would damage America’s future, saying AI-driven job disruption does not justify sending government checks to every citizen.
Gorden said past technological shifts—from automobiles to the internet—eliminated some work but created new industries, and he contended AI will follow that pattern rather than end work altogether.
$40 trillion in national debt makes a universal payment program fiscally dangerous, he wrote, because funding it would require higher taxes, more borrowing or money creation that could fuel inflation.
The bigger risk, Gorden argued, is cultural: UBI would weaken the link between effort and reward, while the better response to AI is broader ownership, new skills and participation in innovation.
