Summary
July 1 has become the next trade flashpoint after Donald Trump renewed threats to impose 10% tariffs on Canadian goods that are not CUSMA-compliant and on more than 60 other countries.
Scott Moe responded by urging Canadians to tune out daily White House rhetoric and stay focused on preserving or improving CUSMA, saying Saskatchewan exports more than 70% of what it produces and relies heavily on U.S. access for oil.
Mosaic said about half the output from its Belle Plaine fertilizer operations goes to the U.S., and it is lobbying to keep potash and phosphate moving tariff-free across North American borders.
Pam Schwann said the U.S. takes nearly 60% of Saskatchewan potash and 26% of its uranium, arguing tariffs would raise costs for American farmers, households and businesses as much as for Canadian producers.
