Summary
Three cups of tea a day—about 6 to 8 grams of leaves—was tied to slower biological aging and fewer skin wrinkles in a Sichuan University study.
13,929 adults were analyzed across two cohorts: 5,998 British participants aged 37 to 73 and 7,931 Chinese participants aged 30 to 79, with researchers tracking tea habits alongside blood pressure, cholesterol and body fat.
Polyphenols and other Antioxidants in tea were cited as the likely mechanism, with the compounds linked to gut health, metabolism, immune function and cognitive support while helping protect skin from environmental damage.
No single tea type or drinking temperature emerged as clearly superior, though researchers noted minor differences between black-tea drinkers in the UK and green-tea drinkers in China.
The findings add to evidence that tea may support heart, brain and dental health, though the report presents an observational link rather than proof that tea itself causes slower aging.
