Spectrum is drilling beneath the floor of Sodus Bay to bring high-speed internet to Eagle Island, LeRoy Island and Crescent Beach in a rare underwater fiber installation.
The link is designed to replace cellular hotspots with faster, more reliable service for island residents and marks the final step in Wayne County's broader broadband expansion.
More than 1,200 homes are being reached through that countywide buildout, which local officials said has already widened service options for previously unserved residents.
Sodus Bay's installation is also being treated as a test case for similar underwater fiber projects elsewhere.
