The attacks fit a broader recent intensification of daily Russian strikes on civilian areas, while Ukraine has responded with longer-range drone attacks it says target military and energy facilities.
UN figures published in April put the civilian toll since Russia’s February 2022 invasion at at least 15,850 killed in Ukrainian-held areas and more than 44,800 wounded across Ukrainian and Russian-occupied zones.
