PNG Court Clears Starlink License Path on April 24 as 3 New Cables Loom

Summary
A 24 April 2026 PNG National Court judgment cleared the way for Starlink’s satellite internet licensing process after regulators had said its use in the country was illegal.
That opening comes as Papua New Guinea’s mobile internet prices showed little movement through 2025: Telikom and Vodafone held bundle prices steady, while Digicel alone made unpredictable changes.
Vodafone altered its offers only in early 2026, adding K10, K20 and K25 mid-range bundles after ending a popular double-data promotion on 31 December 2025, then restoring that promotion in mid-April.
Competition may broaden further beyond Starlink: PNG regulators approved first-quarter 2026 trials of OneWeb services by four companies, while the government is also pursuing three new undersea cables under the Pukpuk Connectivity Initiative.
