Summary
Gen Atlas began development around 2020, with Ueda saying the sci-fi project emerged from an initial idea centered on giant robots rather than a planned genre shift.
Gameplay shown behind closed doors featured an abandoned planet, traversal across mechanical ruins, and players piloting colossal robots to smash obstacles, fly and reshape routes through the world.
Epic Games is publishing the title as Ueda’s first multi-platform release, and Ueda said the company has backed the project without pushing changes to his creative direction.
At 56, Ueda said each project is approached as if there may be no next one, though Epic has suggested Gen Atlas is arriving sooner than fans might expect.
