Summary
Minnesota brought Royce Lewis back from Triple-A St. Paul and designated James Outman for assignment, opening a 40-man roster spot.
Lewis earned the return after hitting .333/.403/.900 with 10 homers in 67 Triple-A plate appearances following his May 19 demotion for a .163/.261/.279 start in the majors.
The 26-year-old infielder also logged time at first and second base in St. Paul, giving the Twins flexibility as they sort out third base and shortstop.
Outman lost his roster spot after batting .156/.229/.250 in 70 plate appearances this season and .144/.235/.284 over his last 374 MLB plate appearances.
Because Outman has less than three years of service time, he would have to accept an outright assignment to Triple-A if he clears waivers or is not traded.
