Job seekers in at least 8 states reported fake part-time proofreading offers paying $60 an hour from someone claiming to represent Coast Healthcare Management, LLC at 45 S Main St. in Hartford.
BBB said the scam typically begins after people post resumes on LinkedIn or Indeed, then shifts to a Microsoft Teams chat-only interview with few questions and requests for personal details.
Frederick Wilford was named in Scam Tracker reports as the sender of the offers, while BBB found a business with the same name in Cypress, California, and said it got no response after months of outreach.
BBB said the case fits a broader pattern of scammers posing as HR staff at real companies to make fake offers look credible, and urged applicants to verify postings and avoid sharing personal information too quickly.
