Taylor Swift’s “I Knew It, I Knew You” was released Friday ahead of “Toy Story 5,” with VFX supervisor Thomas Jordan saying Pixar had known about the track since February.
Jordan said Swift, a “Toy Story” fan, asked to see an early cut, wrote the song after watching it and offered it to the filmmakers, who then kept the collaboration tightly restricted.
A decoy version of the film without the song was shown to press and even some Pixar and Disney staff, while most of the “Toy Story 5” crew learned of the secret only last week.
At the SXSW London panel, Jordan also showcased footage explaining how the team animated 50 Buzz Lightyears and said the film’s animation was 100% human-made, with no AI used.
The fifth Pixar sequel opens June 19, bringing back Buzz, Woody and Jessie as they confront technology’s threat to playtime through a smart device called Lilypad.
