WNBA Says USA 250 All-Star Patches Are Not Finalized After July 25 Uproar

The WNBA said plans to put USA 250 patches on uniforms for the July 25 All-Star Game in Chicago have not been finalized, walking back a report that the patches were set.
The clarification came about nine hours after a Sportico report said players would wear the commemorative patch, triggering backlash from players, fans and media.
Brianna Turner of the Las Vegas Aces, the WNBPA treasurer, argued on X that honoring the nation’s 250th anniversary on uniforms ignored that most WNBA players would not have been free 250 years ago.
The league said it is still exploring how to mark the U.S. semiquincentennial, even as other major leagues including the NBA, NFL and MLB have already embraced USA 250 branding.
