Blaze CEO Says Gaming Industry Misses 51.9 Million Over-55 Players in Western Europe

Summary
51.89 million gamers aged over 55 were in Western Europe in 2025, and Blaze CEO Andrew Byatt says the industry is still under-serving that audience.
Ampere Analysis expects the over-55 gamer population to reach 56.9 million by 2031, reinforcing Byatt’s argument that older players are a growth market with disposable income but limited time.
Byatt said many are lapsed gamers seeking familiar experiences, while publishers remain focused on big-budget cinematic titles aimed at teenagers and people in their early 20s.
Blaze positions Evercade, Super Pocket and other retro-focused devices for that segment, and Byatt argues gaming should follow music and film in making older content better curated and easier to access.
The company is expanding that push this year with the Nexus handheld and two new portable devices themed around the C64 and ZX Spectrum.
