Summary
MRG Effitas awarded Malwarebytes its Consumer Assessment Level 1 certification after the software blocked every malware sample in the lab’s March 2026 test and produced no false positives.
Eight leading antivirus products were evaluated on phishing protection, malware detection and false-positive avoidance, with Malwarebytes among the few to deliver that level of consistency.
A month-long hands-on review by ZDNET said Malwarebytes stopped riskware, Trojans and phishing attempts in the background, sometimes catching threats that slipped past browser and ISP protections.
The review praised the suite’s clean interface and extra tools, but said identity protection was less robust than specialist services and higher-tier plans were pricey, starting at $60 a year and reaching $140 for Ultimate.
