Summary
Scott Wiener led the California primary for Nancy Pelosi’s House seat with 41%, prompting Hasan Piker to lash out on stream that liberals in the state want “homo-fascism” and “gay fascism.”
Piker’s anger followed the failure of his preferred candidate, former AOC chief of staff Saikat Chakrabarti, to advance; San Francisco Supervisor Connie Chan will face Wiener in November.
In a follow-up livestream, Piker rejected criticism that his remarks were homophobic and argued California liberalism stops at abortion and LGBTQ rights while ignoring housing, homelessness and transit.
He also accused Wiener of opportunism on Israel, saying the state senator’s genocide comments were politically motivated after years of defending Israel.
The primary was another setback for candidates Piker promoted: gubernatorial hopeful Tom Steyer and Los Angeles mayoral candidate Nithya Raman were also running third as of Thursday.
