A federal judge in the 11th Judicial Circuit was privately reprimanded after investigators found she had sex with a high-ranking police officer in her chambers during business hours.
The order, affirmed last Friday, said the conduct violated the judicial code, left staff within earshot uncomfortable, and made the judge vulnerable to blackmail.
The unnamed judge first called the allegations baseless but later accepted discipline; the officer’s identity and whether he serves in Atlanta law enforcement are still being examined.
Sanctions require apology letters to former clerks and bar her from serving as chief judge or on Judicial Conference committees, though she keeps her seat.
The committee said she was unlikely to reoffend because the 2-year relationship had ended, allowing the reprimand to remain private and her name undisclosed.
