Virginia Tech Lands Record $75 Million Gift for Athletics and Honors College

$75 million from an anonymous four-generation Hokie family marks Virginia Tech’s largest commitment ever, with most of the money directed to athletics and a sizable share to the Honors College.
The athletics portion will fund the Invest to Win strategy, unrestricted athletic-department spending, and the newly approved Hokie Ventures nonprofit as the school adapts to fast-changing Division I competition.
A large share of the athletics gift is endowed to provide permanent annual support, while the rest—including the Honors College allocation—is available for current use.
The donation far exceeds Virginia Tech’s previous $50 million overall gift record and its prior athletics high of $20 million announced in December 2025.
The commitment arrives during an athletic-director search ahead of Whit Babcock’s July 1 shift to an emeritus advisory role, underscoring broader fundraising momentum across the university.
