Cardinal Robert McElroy removed Monsignor Stephen Rossetti as an exorcist for the Washington archdiocese and severed ties with Rossetti’s St. Michael Center for Spiritual Renewal.
A May 29 video triggered the move after Rossetti said “many if not most” UFO sightings were demons and warned such claims distorted Catholic teaching on the devil, demons and exorcism.
Rossetti, a psychologist and prominent exorcist with more than 148,000 Instagram followers, said he was saddened by the decision and asked forgiveness for any failure to follow Church teaching.
The break also cuts off an archdiocesan link to a Washington-based nonprofit known for spiritual healing work with troubled priests, underscoring tighter scrutiny of exorcism-related messaging.
