The Royal Academy of Engineering’s Spotlight on Spinouts 2026 ranked the University of Bristol fourth in the UK and sixth in Europe for value created from university spinouts over the past 15 years.
Bristol’s portfolio includes 46 VC-backed spinouts with a combined enterprise value of £8.5 billion, and 15 of those companies have raised more than $10 million.
PsiQuantum and Graphcore were major contributors to that standing: PsiQuantum was valued at $7 billion in 2025 after raising $2.6 billion, while Graphcore helped lift Bristol above every institution outside Oxford, Cambridge and London.
The result builds on Bristol’s earlier European Spinout Report 2025 showing, where it ranked fifth in the UK and 10th in Europe for life sciences and deep-tech spinouts.
Bristol says its Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus and Bristol Innovations Zone, opening in 2026, should strengthen the region’s capacity to grow and scale deep-tech companies.
