40,178 people had personal data exposed in an RCI Internet Services breach that the company linked to unauthorized access on March 19, according to a law-firm investigation notice.
March 23 was when RCI said it detected suspicious activity, and a forensic review later found cybercriminals had infiltrated an inadequately secured network and removed files.
Names, Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers and passport information were among the data accessed, raising risks of identity theft, fraud and dark-web distribution.
