Summary
More than 140,000 members of r/WorldCup2026Tickets are using AI-built tools and coordinated “HOLD” tactics to track FIFA ticket drops, avoid scalpers and push fans to wait for lower prices.
SeatSidekick, launched April 18 and built in five days with Claude Code, scans FIFA backend data for near-live availability and pricing; it drew 178,000 unique visitors in a month.
The strategy appears to be working: Jordan vs. Algeria resale tickets fell below $100 on May 17, while France vs. Senegal get-in prices dropped 25% in two weeks to about $450.
Fans are also bypassing FIFA’s official resale channel, where the body takes a 30% commission, through Reddit and WhatsApp trades; one moderator said he saved $1,680 on four New York tickets.
The backlash comes as FIFA faces scrutiny over dynamic pricing, opaque inventory and resale extremes — including a $11.5 million final ticket — with New York and New Jersey subpoenaing its ticketing practices on May 27.
