Emergency warnings hit phones across the Moscow region on June 2 in the first official drone-threat alert declared there, telling residents to stay home, avoid windows or move to shelters.
Two Ukrainian drones intercepted while approaching Moscow triggered the alert, which was sent through Russia's emergency response system and framed as an active security incident.
Officials also warned of possible mobile internet disruptions and advised people outdoors or in vehicles to take cover in buildings, underground crossings or parking garages.
The unprecedented alert comes as Russia faces broader strain from the war, with growth slowing to about 1% last year and the economy shrinking 0.2% in the first quarter of 2026.
