At least eight Googlebook devices are now being prepared for launch this fall, a larger opening lineup than the five-model showcase some had expected from Dell, HP, ASUS, Acer and Lenovo.
Firmware and Chromium Gerrit activity point to four Intel Panther Lake models—Felino, Lapis, Moonstone and Ruby—plus three Snapdragon devices tied to Qualcomm’s Bluey baseboard: Quenbi, Mica and Quartz.
MediaTek appears to round out the first wave with Sapphire, a detachable tablet built on the Kompanio Ultra platform and aimed at the thin, lightweight end of the lineup.
Brand-specific boot splash screen work is cited as a key sign these are Googlebooks rather than standard Chromebooks, suggesting Google is planning a broad, multi-vendor rollout rather than a limited hardware test.
