New Mexico voters head to the polls Tuesday to choose party nominees for governor, U.S. Senate and other offices, with polls closing at 7 p.m. MT and AP race calls beginning only when outcomes are mathematically clear.
Deb Haaland and Sam Bregman lead the Democratic race to replace term-limited Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, while Republicans choose among Gregg Hull, Duke Rodriguez and Doug Turner; Sen. Ben Ray Luján also faces a Democratic primary challenger.
A 2,351-vote threshold will decide whether Republican write-in Senate candidate Larry Marker reaches the general election ballot, because no Republican filed to appear on the printed primary ballot.
About 1.4 million voters are registered statewide, including roughly 573,000 Democrats, 443,000 Republicans and 378,000 unaffiliated voters, who may participate in either party's primary.
