One hostage was safely released Tuesday from a Chase Bank in Bakersfield, where a man remained barricaded inside with an unknown number of other hostages.
Police said Bakersfield crisis negotiators, assisted by the FBI, secured the release after officers responded around 1 p.m. to reports of a bomb threat at the 17th Street branch.
Several people initially escaped after police set a perimeter, and authorities said the remaining hostages were in good health with no injuries reported.
The area around the bank was evacuated and roads were closed, while ATF sent resources and JPMorganChase said it was focused on the safety of everyone involved.
