Eagles Refuse to Trade Jalen Carter for Myles Garrett as $27.1 Million Option Looms

Philadelphia rejected Cleveland’s push to include Jalen Carter in Myles Garrett trade talks, offering Nolan Smith or Jalyx Hunt instead before the Browns sent Garrett to the Rams.
Carter’s contract helps explain the stakes: he is due $3.723 million in 2026, but his 2027 fifth-year option would jump to $27.1 million, likely pushing him to seek a new deal above $30 million annually.
That stance is notable because the Eagles have not yet signed Carter to a second contract, even after extending fellow defensive tackle Jordan Davis in March.
By refusing to move Carter for a star pass rusher, Philadelphia may have strengthened his leverage to hold out of practice until a long-term extension is in place.
