Samsung told staff it will shift its U.S. headquarters from Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, to Plano later this year, with most of about 1,000 employees expected to be reassigned.
Texas won the move after Samsung reviewed how to better align its U.S. businesses, with industry sources citing closer links to semiconductor and consumer-electronics operations, lower real-estate costs and friendlier tax policies.
A small number of employees will remain in New Jersey to support local office functions while the company finalizes headquarters operations and workforce allocation.
The relocation comes only about a year after Samsung moved its U.S. headquarters from Ridgefield Park to nearby Englewood Cliffs, underscoring a rapid reshaping of its U.S. footprint.
