A Tunisian court on Tuesday gave jailed opposition leader Rached El Ghannouchi a life sentence, the harshest ruling in the latest case against President Kais Saied’s prominent critic.
The sentence came in the terrorism-related “secret apparatus” case tied to Ennahda, the country’s largest opposition group.
State news agency TAP said multiple defendants in the same case received prison terms ranging from 10 years to life.
The ruling adds to El Ghannouchi’s earlier jail terms, which already totaled dozens of years in other cases brought under Saied.
