A U.S. Coast Guard vessel from Miami was due in Marsh Harbour on Tuesday, with divers set to search a newly identified 25-foot-deep area of the Sea of Abaco for Lynette Hooker.
Hooker, 56, vanished April 4 while boating near Elbow Cay with her husband, Brian Hooker, who has said she fell from a dinghy at night and was swept away.
U.S. officials are now treating the disappearance as a homicide investigation, reviewing digital evidence, location data and the seized sailboat Soulmate for forensic clues.
Brian Hooker was detained and later released by Bahamian authorities; he has not been charged, and his attorney did not respond to Fox News Digital.
Former prosecutors said any U.S. case could proceed under the foreign-murder statute for U.S. nationals, but proving murder may be difficult without a body or clear signs of foul play.
