Victor Wembanyama said New York's "relentless effort" drove its charge to the NBA Finals, praising the Knicks a day before Wednesday's Game 1 in San Antonio.
New York enters the series 12-2 in the playoffs with 11 straight wins, and its plus-271 point differential over 14 games is the best such postseason stretch in NBA history.
San Antonio still brings unusual upside: at 25.15 years old, the Spurs are the second-youngest team to reach the Finals since the 1976-77 Trail Blazers.
The matchup also carries recent history, with the Knicks winning two of three meetings this season, including a 114-89 rout on March 1; Wembanyama averaged 28.0 points and 13.0 rebounds in two regular-season games against them.
