At Build, Microsoft rolled out a developer-focused Windows 11 update that adds Linux-like command-line tools, deeper WSL integration and a new experimental Intelligent Terminal.
WSL containers are the centerpiece: Microsoft built a CLI and API to create, run and interact with Linux containers on Windows, with a public preview due in coming months.
Coreutils for Windows, based on the Rust-based uutils project, brings native GNU-style utilities to Windows so workflows can move more easily across Linux, macOS, WSL and cloud environments.
Windows Developer Configurations also reached general availability, letting developers quickly set up new PCs with WSL, PowerShell 7, Visual Studio Code, Git in File Explorer and hidden files enabled.
The push supports Microsoft's broader effort to make Windows a trusted development platform while it continues performance and reliability work on Windows 11.
