Caroline Attardo Genco, Tufts University’s provost and senior vice president, was appointed the University at Buffalo’s 16th president after a unanimous SUNY Board of Trustees vote; she takes office Aug. 10.
The appointment follows an international search triggered by Satish K. Tripathi’s planned departure after 15 years leading UB.
At Tufts since 2022, Genco has overseen 10 schools and two colleges, led academic strategy, expanded cross-school research and helped increase research funding and student-support efforts.
Genco, a Buffalo native and first-generation college student, will be the first woman to lead UB in the university’s 180-year history.
She arrives as UB says research funding, philanthropic giving and campus development have surged, positioning the SUNY flagship to build on recent momentum.
