SMU signed 26-year-old Jordyn Adams to play wide receiver this fall, giving the former Angels outfielder his first college football opportunity after ending his baseball career two weeks ago.
Adams had been a 5-star football recruit in the 2018 class but chose pro baseball after the Angels drafted him 17th overall, delaying a planned move to North Carolina.
His pro career reached the majors only briefly — 28 games across 2023 and 2024 with 13 hits — though he hit 55 homers in the minors before bouncing between organizations.
NCAA rules still allow the move because Adams never enrolled in college or started his eligibility clock, even as the association weighs a proposed "5 in 5" rule that would start eligibility earlier.
