Washington is hosting a Trump-Paxton meeting as Republicans move to unify behind the Texas Senate nominee after his decisive primary win over John Cornyn.
The NRSC formally embraced Paxton on Monday with a joint fundraising effort, giving him institutional backing after a bruising and expensive intraparty fight.
Paxton is also working Capitol Hill to repair ties with Republican lawmakers, many of whom had backed Cornyn and questioned his candidacy.
Texas remains a red state, but Paxton enters the 2026 general election carrying legal and ethical baggage that Democrats say James Talarico can exploit.
Early polls have shown Talarico with a slight edge, making the race one of the most closely watched Senate contests of 2026.
