Senate Leaders Revive $70 Billion Immigration Package as DOJ’s $1.8 Billion Fund Faces GOP Revolt

$70 billion in proposed ICE and Border Patrol funding remained under negotiation Tuesday after Senate Republicans blocked movement on Trump’s immigration package past his June 1 target.
A $1.8 billion Justice Department “anti-weaponization” fund triggered the revolt, with GOP senators demanding firm proof the administration will kill it rather than merely pause it.
The administration told Republican leaders it plans to drop the fund, but Trump has not publicly ended it and one source said the effort may only be on hold.
Republicans are also pushing to strip money Trump wants for White House ballroom security, adding another obstacle as leaders try to pass the package through party-line reconciliation.
